Colenbrander replicas/fakes 1/3
Theodoor Christiaan Adriaan Colenbrander
(Doesburg, 31 oktober 1841 - Laag-Keppel, 28 may 1930).
Theodoor Colenbrander was originally an architect.
From 1884 until 1889 he was the designer and artistic director of the "Rozenburg Royal Delftware Factory".
After leaving this factory he started working for a factory called "Plateel factory Zuid-Holland" ( PZH), but was ultimately persuaded to become the sole designer of a factory called "Plateel factory Ram" ( Arhnem) , for whom he worked in the period 1921-1924.
Although being inspired by rural subject matters , his designs were so stylized that they had an abstract quality to them.
This is remarkable, as abstract art did not even exist at that time.
Accordingly this seemingly freestyle type of painting would prove to be dominate in all his work.
What was even more special about is work, however, was that all of his creations were given a name, just like paintings.
Names which would refer to its maker's source of inspiration: appelbloesem, goudenregen, spinneweb, kantwerk, tulpen , draaiing, bruisend, blaauwpatroon, firmament, voorjaar and let's not forget: "druipend"
to name but a few.
